Robert McVicker, Governing Director
Governing Director and owner of the Morris Group of Companies, Robert McVicker has been with Morris for more than 33 years. Robert started with Morris in 1978 and since this time has personally been involved in every major project of the company. He is a true hands on operator who passionately believes success follows those that are not afraid of hard work. He believes this is particularly the case for those that are prepared to make sacrifices.
Robert initially came to Morris as a chef who caught the attention of the late David Morris. Taking a liking to the young enthusiastic McVicker, David nurtured his unique abilities and trained him in every aspect of management. Morris was a hard taskmaster and Robert revelled in the challenge. It wasn’t long before Robert worked his way up the corporate ladder. He quickly progressed from managing a single project to being Operations Manager for multiple projects. Robert then occupied the position of General Manager and eventually Director/CEO. During this time Robert travelled worldwide for the company and was involved in every aspect of the company’s growth. Robert was instrumental in winning and operating all the companies major offshore projects post 1986.
In the early 1990’s Robert tendered and won the United Nations contract in Cambodia, at this time the world’s largest single subcontracted catering contract supplying 16,000 troops. This project was to be the catalyst for a string of further contracts for the company working in war zones in countries such as Somalia, Mozambique, East Timor and Iraq.
In 1996 Robert undertook a 100% management buyout of Morris Australia and under his sole direction the Morris concentrated on the Australian domestic market. Focusing on remote site projects throughout Australia has proven to be a winning formula with the Morris (the largest privately owned remote site caterer in Australia). In order to achieve continued success, Robert formed an executive team to execute company strategy and deliver promises to its clients and customers. Robert states, “Morris’s success is not about me, but a reflection of the people within my organization that dedicate themselves to its success”
Now Governing Director of an international company Robert remains actively involved in driving the company forward. Within the last two years it has seen unparalleled success despite the world’s economic downturn, the Western Australian operations have quadrupled within this period and its Queensland operations are set to challenge this status. Of late Robert spends a great deal of his time in the Middle East on various company projects. He believes that there continues to be fantastic opportunities in this part of the world and has committed the company to its long term presence in this region.
